Bendamustine Not Effective In Some Combinations

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Although bendamustine can be effective as monotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), it does not combine well with several other commonly used anticancer drugs, researchers in Germany report.

"Regulation of apoptotic cell death is being increasingly recognized as mechanisms by which cytostatic agents mediate tumor cell death," explained Eckhart Weidmann and colleagues. "Preliminary clinical studies with bendamustine, an alkylating agent with a purine nucleus, provide strong evidence that this drug is a highly effective cytostatic in low grade lymphomas."
