Leukocyte Reduction Lowers Viral Load

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Three different leukocyte reduction (LR) techniques are effective for culling cytomegalovirus (CMV) populations in blood products, according to researchers in the United States.

L.J. Dumont and colleagues in Colorado conducted a study comparing "the effectiveness of 3 leukocyte reduction methods in depleting the residual level of cytomegalovirus in blood products measured by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (QA-PCR)." The results of their research were published in the journal Blood.
