Eurobank Registry Aims To Improve Bone Marrow Transplant Success

Newcastle University and the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Newcastle, U.K., are embarking on a pioneering 1.7 million pounds sterling project aimed at improving chances of survival for thousands of leukemia patients across Europe.

Doctors should soon be able to predict to what extent genetic differences between patients and their donors will affect the success of bone marrow transplants. This knowledge will help them to prescribe the most appropriate treatment after the operation to avoid life-threatening complications.

The University and the RVI will use the international project to build on their unique work which has already helped patients. ...
