"Decreased graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in cord blood (CB) transplantation may be attributed to the immunological immaturity and susceptibility to apoptosis of CB mononuclear cells (MNCs)," explained Dr. Kuo Ming-ling and colleagues at Chang Gung Children's Hospital in Taoyuan.
Interleukin (IL)-12 and IL-15 can make cord blood MNCs even more susceptible to apoptosis, and may further reduce GvHD risk in transplant recipients, Kuo and coauthors...
