Topotecan-Filgrastim Combination Effective For Stem Cell Mobilization

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - The combination of the chemotherapy drug topotecan and the hematopoietic growth factor filgrastim is superior to filgrastim alone for mobilizing stem cells, researchers say.

Dr. Allen Eng-Juh Yeoh and colleagues at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the University of Tennessee in Memphis, the University of Nebraska in Omaha, and the National University of Singapore conducted a study comparing the "efficacy, toxicity, and cost of topotecan-filgrastim and filgrastim alone for mobilizing peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs)" in children with brain and spinal tumors.
