Low white blood cell counts seen in semiconductor plant workers

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - People involved in semiconductor manufacture have a heightened risk of low white blood cell counts, researchers in Taiwan warn.

Dr. Jiin-Chyuan John Luo and colleagues at Chang Gung University and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Tao-Yuan conducted a study to "assess the systematic health effects on the liver, kidney, and hematological function tests of workers in semiconductors in Taiwan."

These workers were much more likely to suffer from leukopenia than workers in other fields, Luo and coauthors found.
