"The efficacy of acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) in decreasing allogeneic blood requirements remains controversial during cardiac surgery," explained Dr. Laurent Hohn and colleagues at the University of Geneva.
Subjecting patients to hemodilution during surgery had little if any effect on transfusion requirements or surgical outcome, Hohn and coauthors found.
