Dr. Yoshimune Sakaki and colleagues working at Kagoshima University in Kagoshima performed a study to investigate the "significance of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) Tax protein-induced resistance to anticancer drugs and the relationship between Tax and multidrug resistance proteins."
The effects of Tax were mediated by other proteins linked to drug resistance, but not the proteins widely assumed to be upregulated by Tax, Sakaki and coauthors found.
