Polymerase chain reaction blood tests valuable

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Molecular blood tests can be accurate and cost-effective for prostate cancer staging, researchers in Japan say.

"There have been several studies on the presence of circulating tumor cells in the peripheral blood of patients with malignant tumors including prostate cancer (PCa) using reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR)," according to Noburu Hara and colleagues working at Niigata University in Niigata. "One of the aims of these studies was to obtain high sensitivity that would enable early-stage diagnosis."
