Mycophenolate mofetil effective against GvHD but carries high infection risk

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) can control graft-versus-host reactions to stem cell grafts but carries substantial risks of its own, researchers in France report.

Marion Baudard and colleagues at Hotel-Dieu University Hospital in Nantes evaluated the benefits and drawbacks of MMF therapy to treat posttransplant graft-versus-host disease (GvHD).

This immunosuppressant is effective against GvHD but significantly increases the risk of infectious morbidity, Baudard and coauthors found.
