Fanconi Anemia

An oxidative response to interferon gamma appears responsible for apoptosis

Children with Fanconi anemia have increased apoptosis due to highly sensitive induction of ROS by interferon gamma.

According to recent research published in the journal Biochemical Pharmacology, "Hematopoietic progenitor cells from children with Fanconi anemia of the C complementation group (FA-C) are excessively apoptotic and hypersensitive to various extracellular cues including Fas-ligand, tumor necrosis factor-of and double-stranded (ds) RNA. IFN-gamma is known to augment apoptotic responses of these factors.
