Research funded by Geron in the laboratory of Dr. Jim McWhir and colleagues at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland demonstrates that osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) can be derived in vitro from hESCs. Such hESC-derived osteoblasts have potential applications in orthopedic tissue repair and in the treatment of osteoporosis.
