"Sialic acid binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 8 (Siglec-8), which exists in two isoforms including one possessing cytoplasmic tyrosine motifs, is expressed only on human eosinophils, basophils, and mast cells," scientists in the United States explained.
"Until now, its function was unknown," according to E. Nutku and colleagues at Johns Hopkins University, who discovered "a novel function of Siglec-8 on eosinophils" in their study.
