Class II transactivator regulates classical HLA-DR; other MHC-II have alternates

HLA-DO in B cells is not regulated by only known factors, there are still some unknown; and many classical MHC-II genes are not regulated only by CIITA and can be expressed without it.

"The class II transactivator (CIITA) regulates expression of the classical and non-classical MHC class II genes, HLAs DR, DP, DQ and DM, but not the B cell-specific HLA-DO," investigators in the United States report.
