Cytotoxic lymphocyte cytotoxicity can be measured using an anti-caspase 3 assay

Radioactive chromium release assay for cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) apoptosis can be supplanted by a nonradioactive antibody assay targeting caspase 3.

According to recent research from the United States, "CTLs are critical effector cells of the immune system. Measurement of target cell damage has historically been an important measure of CTL function.
