Support for stem cell research mixed among Colorado's congressional delegation

Support for stem cell research among Colorado's congressional delegation is mixed following former President Ronald Reagan's death and Nancy Reagan's vocal support.

Presidential hopeful John Kerry also intensified the debate by renewing his pledge to reverse President Bush's restrictions on federal funding for the research that uses human embryos.

Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colorado, was one of 58 senators who signed a letter asking President Bush to ease restrictions.

The letter signed by 43 Democrats, the Senate's one independent and 14 Republicans was sent to Bush June 4, the day before Reagan died.
