Targretin cutaneous T-cell lymphoma therapy reimbursed by Medicare

Ligand Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (LGND) reported that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) recently announced formal implementation of the Section 641 Demonstration Program under the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 includes reimbursement under Medicare for Targretin (bexarotene) for patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL).

This demonstration program initiates coverage for selected self-administered drugs and biologics, including Targretin, under Medicare almost 18 months earlier than Medicare Part D, which will initiate reimbursement for most prescription drugs in January 2006.
