German company gets U.S. patent for artificial heart insert method, device

The patent (U.S. Patent No 6,764,508) claims a method for inserting an implant, such as a biological or artificial heart valve, into the human organism, as well as a special device for carrying out this method.

The basic term of the patent will expire in September 2019. Patents covering this technology are pending in other major markets, including Europe, Japan and Canada and have been issued in Australia and Singapore earlier this year.
