Greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania region reports 86% increase in organ donation

Gift of Life Donor Program, the federally designated nonprofit organ procurement organization (OPO) serving the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware, has seen a dramatic increase in organ donations.

In the last decade, Gift of Life, which coordinates donations from deceased donors, has seen an 86% increase in donations.

For the eighth consecutive year, Gift of Life has coordinated more organ donations and transplants than any other OPO in the U.S. In 2004 alone, 1,131 people received transplants thanks to 387 organ donors (a 13% increase since 2003), as compared to 618 transplants just a decade ago.
