According to scientists in Germany, "Activation of coagulation and fibrinolysis is common among patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) surgery. Little is known, however, about the impact of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion on coagulation activation and fibrinolysis in this clinical setting."
