Six initial laboratory findings strongly predict ITP diagnosis in adults

For adults presenting with thrombocytopenia, a set of six initial laboratory findings strongly predict an eventual diagnosis of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

Scientists in Japan conducted a study "to identify initial laboratory findings useful for the later diagnosis" of ITP "in adult patients with thrombocytopenia."

"We studied 62 consecutive adult patients who had thrombocytopenia and whose peripheral blood film was normal except for thrombocytopenia at presentation," explained M.
