Anemia associated with higher risk of death in the elderly

Elderly people with the lowest and highest hemoglobin concentrations (the component of red blood cells that carries oxygen) are at increased risk of death, according to a study in the October 24 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine (Arch Intern Med. 2005; 165: 2214-2220).
