Vitamin C supplements attenuates effects of occupational lead exposure

Treatment with dietary vitamin C supplements can attenuate and/or reverse occupational lead toxicity. "In order to investigate the toxic effects of lead during occupational exposure to this metal," toxicologists in Nigeria assessed "the activity of aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) and the concentrations of erythrocyte protoporphyrin (EPP)" in relation to blood lead levels in subjects working in the city of Abeokuta. "ALAD activity in the artisans was inhibited to varying extents," O. Ademuyiwa and coauthors at the University of Agriculture found.
