Metapneumovirus infection may be associated with lung allograft rejection.

According to recent research published in the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, "In immunocompromised patients, respiratory viruses are likely to lead to lower respiratory tract infections that cause severe morbidity and mortality.
