HBsAg seropositive status after renal transplantation decreases positive outcomes

According to recently published research from Italy, heaptitis B virus (HBV) surface antigen (HbsAg) seropositive status after renal transplantation (RT) decreases positive outcomes.

"The natural history of HBV infection after RT remains unclear. We conducted a systematic review of the published medical literature on the impact of HBsAg seropositivity on survival of RT recipients," wrote F. Fabrizi and colleagues, Maggiore Hospital.

"We used the random effects model of DerSimonian and Laird to generate a summary estimate of the relative risk for mortality and graft loss in HBsAg positive RT recipients across the published studies."
