Neural progenitor cell differentiation is mediated by neurogenin

According to a recent study from the United States, neural progenitor cell differentiation is mediated by neurogenin 1 (Ngn1).

"Proneuronal basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor, Ngn1, regulates neuronal differentiation during development of the cerebral cortex. Akt mediates proneuronal bHLH protein function to promote neuronal differentiation," wrote L. Wang and colleagues, Henry Ford Hospital.
