HCV in hemodialysis patients is linked to decreased plasma oxidative load

A study from Turkey has reported that hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in hemodialysis patients is linked to decreased plasma oxidative load.

"HCV infection is a common problem that increases morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. These patients are also at risk of increased oxidative stress," wrote S. Sezer and colleagues, Baskent University Hospital.

They continued, "The aim of this study was to evaluate possible interactions between HCV infection and oxidative stress indicators in a group of hemodialysis patients awaiting transplantation."
