Arkansas researchers create test for acetaminophen poisoning in children and adults

A new test for acetaminophen poisoning is effective with children as well as adults, according to a study published by researchers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and the Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI). The study, led by Laura James, MD, associate professor of pediatrics, UAMS College of Medicine and an ACHRI researcher, was published in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Acetaminophen is the one of the most widely used drugs for treatment of pain and fever in the United States. Though safe at recommended doses, the drug can cause liver damage with excessive doses....
