Findings from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center broaden understanding of leukemia genetics

Research findings, "Constitutive activation of Flt3 and STAT5A enhances self-renewal and alters differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells," are discussed in a new report. In this recently published article, scientists in the United States conducted a study "To model human leukemogenesis by transduction of human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) with genes associated with leukemia and expressed in leukemic stem cells. Constitutive activation of Flt3 (Flt3-ITD) has been reported in 25 to 30% of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML)."
