Research reports from University of Mississippi Medical Center provide new insights into von Willebrand disease

Scientists discuss in "Cloning of the cDNA for murine von Willebrand factor and identification of orthologous genes reveals the extent of conservation among diverse species" new findings in von Willebrand disease. According to recent research published in the journal Platelets, "Interaction of von Willebrand factor (VWF) with circulating platelets promotes hemostasis when a blood vessel is injured. The A1 domain of VWF is responsible for the initial interaction with platelets and is well conserved among species."
