Research from National Institute for Biological Standards and Control provides new data on transfusion medicine

Current study results from the report, "Frequent detection of the parvoviruses, PARV4 and PARV5, in plasma from blood donors and symptomatic individuals," have been published. "Plasma pools used in the manufacture of blood-and plasma-derived medicinal products are frequently contaminated with parvovirus B19. The presence of the novel human parvovirus PARV4 and a related variant PARV5 in manufacturing plasma pools was recently demonstrated," investigators in Hertfordshire, the United Kingdom report.
