Studies from University of Missouri provide new data on panniculitis

"Neutrophilic panniculitis is rare and is classified as a parmiculitic member of the neutrophilic dermatoses spectrum. In affected patients, an underlying systemic disease, such as myelodysplasia, is often present," investigators in the United States report.

"We describe an infant with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis who developed neutrophilic panniculitis. Neutrophilic panniculitis clinically mimics other panniculitides and biopsy specimen can be diagnostic," wrote J.A. Dyer and colleagues, University of Missouri.

The researchers concluded: "Identification of this entity can aid the diagnosis of the underlying systemic process."
