Study findings on enzyme research are outlined in reports from Harvard University, Department of Surgery

New research, 'Heme oxygenase and carbon monoxide initiate homeostatic signaling,' is the subject of a report. According to recent research from the United States, "Carbon monoxide (CO), a gaseous second messenger, arises in biological systems during the oxidative catabolism of heme by the heme oxygenase (HO) enzymes. Many biological functions of HO, such as regulation of vessel tone, smooth muscle cell proliferation, neurotransmission, and platelet aggregation, and anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects have been attributed to its enzymatic product, CO."
