Maryland Restaurateur, Sports Celebs Raise Over $300K for Charity

Despite economic woes, restaurateur Steve de Castro, along with noted Baltimore-area sports figures, have raised $311K to find a cure for blood-related cancers at the Ruth's Chris Steak House Sizzling Celebrity Golf Classic. Funds raised benefit the Maryland Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Started by de Castro after witnessing a friend's daughter battle Leukemia, the annual golf classic has raised more than $2.2 million since its inception in 1997. It is one of de Castro's many corporate philanthropy initiatives.
