New neutropenia study findings recently were published by researchers at College of Medicine, Division of Hematology

Research findings, 'Progenitor cell self-renewal and cyclic neutropenia,' are discussed in a new report. "Cyclic neutropenia (CN) is a rare genetic disorder where patients experience regular cycling of numbers of neutrophils and various other haematopoietic lineages. The nadir in neutrophil count is the main source of problems due to risk of life-threatening infections," scientists writing in the journal Cell Proliferation report.

"Patients with CN benefit from granulocyte colony stimulating factor therapy, although cycling persists. Mutations in neutrophil elastase gene (ELA2) have been found in more than half of patients with CN. However, neither connection...
