Estrogen Replacement Therapy and Risk of Colon Cancer in Postmenopausal Women

The results of several recent epidemiological studies suggest that estrogen replacement therapy in postmenopausal women may decrease their risk of subsequently developing colon or colorectal cancer, reported Eugenia E. Calle at the American Cancer Society's 37th Science Writers Seminar, held March 26-19, 1995, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Incidence rates for colon cancer used to be higher in women, than in men, until recently. The use of estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) has become more commonplace during this same time period, suggesting a possible relationship.
