"Ablation of a Murine Colon Tumor Line CT26 By Injection of a Recombinant Retrovector Containing the HSV Thymidine Kinase Gene and Ganciclovir Therapy."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 86th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held March 18-22, 1995, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "The introduction of therapeutic genes into proliferating tumor cells in vivo by retroviral gene transfer could provide an effective and valuable approach for the treatment of a variety of tumor types. A retrovector engineered to contain the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-tk) gene was used to transfer this gene into the murine colon tumor line CT26. This transduced cell line was highly susceptible to the cytotoxicity of ganciclovir in vitro, whereas the unmodified CT26 line was not affected. In vivo,...
