According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 86th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, held March 18-22, 1995, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "The introduction of therapeutic genes into proliferating tumor cells in vivo by retroviral gene transfer could provide an effective and valuable approach for the treatment of a variety of tumor types. A retrovector engineered to contain the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-tk) gene was used to transfer this gene into the murine colon tumor line CT26.
