Paclitaxel Extends Life of Ovarian Cancer Patients

Women with advanced ovarian cancer extended their average survival time by 13 months, or 50 percent, when they received the drug paclitaxel in combination with cisplatin.

The therapy allowed women a median survival time of 37.5 months, compared to 24.4 months with the standard chemotherapy of cisplatin and cyclophosphamide. The findings come from clinical trials of nearly 400 women conducted by William McGuire, M.D., professor of medicine, Winship Cancer Center of Emory University.
