According to the authors' abstract of an article published in Clinical Immunotherapeutics, "Our work has demonstrated that a set of highly conserved cellular proteins, known as heat shock proteins (HSPs), bind to the entire repertoire of peptides generated in cells during normal synthesis, transport and degradation of proteins and during antigen presentation. Such HSP-peptide complexes can be readily isolated from cancer cells or virus-infected cells and can be used to vaccinate and elicit a protective immune response against the cells that were used as source of HSP-peptide complexes.
