"Cancer Gene Therapy with Nonviral Vectors."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 5th International Symposium on Delivery and Targeting of Peptides, Proteins and Genes, held May 17-20, 1995, in Leiden, The Netherlands, "Treatment of cancer presents a unique challenge to gene therapists. The antiproliferative effect, as the result of transgene expression, must be strong and occur in most, if not all, tumor cells. Unlike the treatment of genetic diseases, transgene expression in tumor cells need not be long-lasting which enables plasmid DNA mediated vector systems to work well in cancer gene therapy.
