Hypersensitivity Reactions - A New Addition to IL-2 Toxicity

A University of Southern California chemoimmunotherapy clinical trial has produced a surprising addition to the interleukin-2 (IL-2) repertoire.

G.R. Heywood et al. published the first report which describes IL-2 induced hypersensitivity reactions to chemotherapy ("Hypersensitivity Reactions to Chemotherapy Agents in Patients Receiving Chemoimmunotherapy with High-Dose Interleukin 2," Journal of the National Cancer Institute, June 21, 1995;87(12):915-922).

Many previous studies of chemotherapy agents combined with IL-2 have been published with no mention of hypersensitivity to the chemotherapy agents.
