According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 8th International Congress of Mucosal Immunology, held July 17-20, 1995, in San Diego, California, "Immune/inflammatory reaction to human cancer tissue is one of the important factors to determine the biological behavior of cancers. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and serine proteinases are involved in cancer invasion and tissue remodeling. Gelatinase B as a member of MMPs family and urokinase receptor which is important for the activation of thrombin, a member of serine proteinases, are currently believed to contribute to cancer invasion and metastasis.
