Grant Won for In-Depth Study of Human Immune System

The American Cancer Society has awarded a $212,000 grant to the University of California, Riverside (UCR) for research leading to better understanding of the human immune system, knowledge which potentially can be used to improve the body's ability to defend against such diseases as cancer.

The two-year research project underway in the laboratory of Carl F. Ware, UCR professor of biomedical sciences, focuses on the chemical signals that pass between abnormal cells - such as those that are malignant or infected with a virus - and cells of the immune system called T lymphocytes.
