"Stool Surveillance for Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREF) on a Pediatric Oncology Ward: Duration of Shedding and Incidence of Clinical Infections."

According to an abstract submitted by the author to the 35th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology, held September 17-20, 1995, in San Francisco, California, "Objective: To determine the duration of shedding and the incidence of clinical infection with VREF among a cohort of pediatric oncology patients with stool colonization. Design: Prospective cohort study. Results: Among 305 patients admitted to the unit from May 15 - August 2, 1994, 75 (25%) had at least 1 stool sample screened; 18 (24%) of 75 patients were positive for VREF.
