Approval of Fareston for Treatment of Breast Cancer Recommended

Schering-Plough Corporation, Madison, New Jersey, announced that the European Union's (EU) Committee for Proprietary Medicinal Products (CPMP) has unanimously recommended approval of Fareston (toremifene citrate) as a first-line treatment of hormone-dependent metastatic breast cancer in post-menopausal women.

The CPMP recommendation follows the October 16, 1995, decision of the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to recommend that the FDA grant marketing clearance for Fareston for use in treating locally advanced and advanced breast cancer in post-menopausal women.
