HCV Status Is Not Related to Life-Threatening Disease in BMT Recipients

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA positivity was not a predictor of veno-occlusive disease (VOD) or a marker for life-threatening liver disease, despite a 47 percent prevalence of HCV infection in a study of Italian patients bone marrow transplantation (BMT) patients.

HCV's infection role in severe liver failure after BMT is still uncertain, noted A. Locasciulli, University of Milano, Monza, Italy, and colleagues.
