Better Detection Responsible for Rise in Cancer Rates

The number of prostate cancer cases is on the rise, but that can be at least partially attributed to use of the Prostate-specific antigen (PSA), test according to an article in the November 8, 1995, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Steven J. Jacobsen, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, studied men in Rochester's Olmsted County to determine how much the prostate cancer incidence rose once PSA testing became a standard procedure for prostate cancer screening.
