Researchers Say Rise in Cancers Due To Increased Screening

Diagnosed cases of prostate cancer are on the rise, not necessarily because of any decline in the health of American men, but because of a new blood test that can detect the disease early on, researchers say. The findings should be reassuring to men, said Dr. Steven J. Jacobsen, who reported the findings in the November 8, 1995, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The increase in diagnosed cases of prostate cancer "means it's probably not something out in the environment, something that we're doing lifestyle-wise.
