According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 4th International Conference on Gene Therapy of Cancer, held November 9-11, 1995, in San Diego, California, "Alterations in the p53 tumor suppressor gene are frequent in human liver malignancies, including primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and metastatic colorectal cancer. A recombinant adenovirus encoding wildtype human p53 has been developed to deliver p53, and its anti-tumor effects have been demonstrated using in vitro and in vivo models of human cancer.
