According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 3rd International Meeting on Hepatitis C Virus and Related Viruses, held August 30 - September 3, 1995, in Gold Coast, California, "Background and Objective: Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major risk factor in the development of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In the present study we have attempted to determine the HCV genotypes associated with hepatocellular carcinoma in patients from the U.S.A and Japan. Materials and Methods: Tumorous and non-tumorous tissues were obtained from 12 HCV seropositive patients from Japan, and plasma from 4 patients from the U.S.A were investigated. ...
